The NPM started the first annual National Treasure Merchandise Design Competition in 2010. In 2011, in addition to the 2nd annual competition, the NPM also organized “the Renaissance of Pattern Design Award”. In 2012 and 2013, the NPM also held the 3rd and 4th National Treasure Merchandise Design Competitions with the exhibitions of cultural relics selected as the creative sources. These competitions have effectively achieved the NPM’s main objective of promoting education of cultural relics and the diverse cultivation of design talents in the industry and academia in Taiwan. Through this competition, the participants could have the opportunity to become National Treasure designers and brainstorm creative ideas that will contribute to the development of Taiwan's cultural and creative industries on the global stage. To actively promote the culture and creative industry, encourage youths and students to become more familiar with cultural relics, and pass down the spirit of Chinese culture, the NPM hosted a series of activities including design competitions, aesthetics seminars, presentations and exhibitions etc., hoping to attract design talents to create” Artifacts-Inspired Products” and engage in the product development industry.
